About Woodlawn Christian Fellowship

What a joy it is to introduce you to our church!
We always say Woodlawn Christian Fellowship is “a place where God’s Love flows.” It is one of the reasons we have had a lifelong relationship with the people here and been pastors here since 2006.
At WCF, our doors are open to people from all backgrounds, regardless of where they are on their spiritual journey. We are a multicultural church that has been in the heart of Woodlawn since 1946, and our goal is to infuse life and God’s love into people and families.
Together, we’re striving to become the kind of church described in the Bible: A church where there is relevant teaching, heart-felt worship, honest friendships, constant prayer, and compassionate care for those in need.
If you are still just checking us out and investigating the claims of Jesus Christ, thank you for allowing us to help you in your search. Or, if you are a committed Christ-follower who wants to grow deeper in your faith, you can find a home here at Woodlawn Christian Fellowship.
We work alongside members of our fellowship, and the greater body of Christ, through the difficult and joyful times of our journey toward eternal life. We believe it is important to partner with the community and support our neighbors.
Our desire is to help you find your gifts and calling in Christ; through the Bible & seek Jesus to help equip you to walk out this wonderful adventure with Christ.
Join us for Sunday worship at 11:00 a.m.

We Believe…

  • There is one God, eternally existent in three persons; God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. – II Corinthians 13:14—John 1:1-Matthew 3:16-17
  • In the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ; in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, in His personal future return to this earth in power and glory to rule a thousand years. – Luke 1:26-38
  • In the Blessed Hope– the rapture of the Church at Christ’s coming.
    Colossians 1:5, 23, 27
  • The only means of being cleansed from sin is through repentance and faith in the precious blood of Christ. Matthew 26:28 – Romans 3:24-25
  • Regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential for personal salvation.I Corinthians 6:11 Ephesians 2:1- 5
  • The redemptive work of Christ on the cross provides healing of the human body in answer to believing prayer. Romans 3:24, 25 – Colossians 1:14 – Isaiah 53:5
  • The baptism in the Holy Spirit, according to Acts 2:4, is given to believers who ask for it. – Acts 11:6
  • In the sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit by who’s indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a holy life. – I Corinthians 1:30
  • In the resurrection of both the saved and the lost, the one to everlasting life and other to everlasting damnation. – John 5:27-28

Encountering the Presence of God in our Services

The Shout of Praise

We witness people everywhere shouting over things that excite them and move them to shout enthusiastically. But nowhere are the shouts more appropriate than in the presence of the Lord.

Psalm 47:1 Psalm 66:1 Psalm 95:1

Psalm 12:6 Psalm 40:9 Isaiah 54:1

We have much to shout about concerning the life we now have in Christ. We must let the whole world know the one who has redeemed us and set us free. Whether the shout is a part of our personal nature or not, it is indeed a real part of His Divine Nature. It should be practiced at its appropriate time by the believer.

Lifting Up Holy Hands

The lifting of our hands is an act of worship, and biblical important.

Psalms 63:4 1 Timothy 2:8 Psalms 134:2

The lifting of hands signifies our surrender to the Lord and the recognition of who He is as Lord of Lords.

Waiting On God

There will be periods during a service when we take time to just wait on God. We are careful not to allow our agenda to interfere with what God desires to do. We don’t ever want to interrupt the moving of the Holy Spirit to have the service go our way. We encourage everyone to enter into the hunger for the presence of God. He will never disappoint us if we just reach out for Him. He will renew our strength. Our goal is for each service to be led completely by the Spirit of God, so we wait upon Him to lead us.

Laying On of Hands

In agreement with the Word of God, we lay hands on people to pray for them.  Mark 16:8 Mark 6:13 Acts 9:17 Acts 28:8 James 5:14

We have no healing ability or power in and of ourselves, but simply serve as obedient vessels that God can use as a point of contact and agreement with those for whom we are praying. Anointing with oil signifies the presence of the Holy Spirit as we pray.

The Baptism of the Holy Spirit

Acts 1:8 says: “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me in both Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and the uttermost part of the earth.” We believe that baptism of the Holy Spirit is for every believer and can be accepted just by asking God for it. The baptism of the Holy Spirit provides great boldness and power to witness to the believer. It enables the believer to do what Paul wrote concerning praying in the Spirit and praying and singing in the Spirit with understanding.

When someone is baptized in the Holy Spirit, it is evidenced by speaking in tongues, a heavenly language.

These languages are used by the believer to pray, worship and sing to the Lord as the Holy Spirit flows through them. We are not seeking tongues, but rather His glorious baptism in the Holy Spirit. Tongues will come with the baptism as an evidence of your having been filled. As a result, you may hear those around you speaking in tongues.                                                                            Acts 10:46 Acts 19:6 Acts 2:4

Slain In the Spirit

There will be times when you might experience or see someone fall to the floor. We call this being “slain in the spirit” or having “gone out” under the power of God. Please know that the awesome power of God is something more than our frail human bodies can handle and will often cause us to be unable to stand. God is always doing something in the lives of the persons who are in the floor such as healing, giving direction, refreshing, changing, or speaking to them. This is the wonder of the God we serve caring so much to meet with us individually.

11 Chronicles 5:14 John 18:6 Revelation 1:17 Acts 9:4 Acts 22:7

About the Gifts of the Holy Spirit

Other times you will hear someone speak in tongues and then you hear another person speak in English. This is a message in tongues followed by interpretation as described in 1 Corinthians 12 & 14. The gifts of tongues must be followed by the gift of interpretation so that all in attendance can understand what God is saying to the church. God uses messages in tongues and interpretation to guide, instruct, encourage and support His church. What an awesome thought that the God of Heaven speaks in this way to His Bride.

Men of Standard
We believe that “full recovery” and complete healing is possible! The Men of Standard biblically-based treatment model works by serving a dual purpose:
1) If we create an environment in which men can grow spiritually and learn Biblical principles that they can apply to their daily lives; they will recover.
2) If we teach men practical methods that support them in their new lives and encourage healthy alternatives that are contrary to old habits and behaviors they will be who they are destined to be.

The Pastors

Native Baltimoreans, Pastor Tom and Pastor Michelle began their life together serving God and the body of Christ ministering to the street people and homeless in Baltimore City. The have been married and in ministry since 1988.

These Apostolic Pastors have an evangelistic background and it is their desire to see people come and experience the reality of God’s love; His saving power, and GRACE.

They know the importance of equipping people into their destiny and building a deep relationship with Jesus.

Pastor Tom
Pastor Tom has the heart of an evangelist. As a boy, Tom would go to the race track to earn money walking the horses. His love of horses, fearlessness and small stature made becoming a jockey a natural choice. He spent many years on the race circuit riding the horses of the rich and famous and becoming addicted to alcohol and drugs along the way. Despite his addictions, Tom was known as a man with a good heart. When his addictions nearly killed him, a blacksmith at the track, a friend who truly loved him, stepped in and introduced Tom to Jesus Christ.
When Tom experienced the transforming Love of God in his heart he knew it was time to get the rest of himself in order. He knew he needed help. Tom entered Teen Challenge of Capitol Heights, MD; a life changing program. Here God transformed Tom’s life, called him into ministry and gave him a mentor (Bro. Mason Sorenson) to teach him. As a graduate he served on the Ministry Team of Teen Challenge until God called him to go out into the “Highways & Hedges” and minister to the homeless and street people of Baltimore. Pastor Tom isn’t on the street ministering today, but the love that God put in his heart for people has not diminished the smallest bit.
Pastor Tom has a way of communicating the gospel that makes you just understand the Word of God and His love for you. Maybe it is because he knows the trials of life; homelessness, incarceration, depression, and defeat. Tom could barely read, but at age 39 he dedicated himself to reading the Word of God and has completed reading the Bible for the 24th time this year. Pastor Tom says, “I was beat up from the feet up, Tore up from floor up, Wrecked up from the neck up, But God changed me and restored me.” His practical approach to the pathway to God’s heart has given him the joy of seeing hundreds of people meet his Savior.
Pastor Tom loves music and is self-taught. He plays the banjo harmonica, guitar, mandolin, drums and keyboards. He has also written some of the songs he performs.
Pastor Michele
Pastor Michele has an Apostolic calling on her life and the Heart of God for His People.
She spent 11 years with her husband, Tom, ministering to the homeless and street people of Baltimore; this work has enabled her to come away with a true understanding of God’s heart for His people. She has spoken nationally to the Body of Christ with her message of encouragement and destiny.
Her ministry and heart is to reach out to; the wounded church, the broken hearted, and wandering souls and help them discover their destiny as sons and daughters of the Creator of heaven and earth. Pastor Michele’s vision is to see people understand God’s love for them and be equipped through the Word and a deep relationship with Jesus. She knows that if a person is healed and knows their gifting, they can walk out the destiny of God for their life.
Her other passions are; Tea Time with Jesus a ministry that takes the nicety of tea and the love of God to refresh those in need. She enjoys travelling and meeting people from all over the world.
Pastor Michele is active in her community association and knows that being involved can influence positive change and godly presence. She is fluent in conversational Spanish and has completed a two-year degree in biblical studies through ISOM. She has recently completed a trip to Honduras where she ministered the Gospel.
